Your Man on The Grog
Holy crap! I’ve just been told I have three days to leave the country! No, I have not insulted the Kings’ daughters, I did not pee on the tires of the Prime Ministers’ car, and I have not made enemies with the local mafia.
Apparently my 1337 programming skills are needed in Australia, so on Saturday night it’s off to Sydney I go, for THREE MONTHS! This is going to be interesting for so many reasons. I think I’ll suffer more culture shock going back after spending more than a year almost exclusively in the company of Thais than I did when I came from Australia to here.
Mind you, I’m already looking forward to flat footpaths and water I can drink from a tap (oh wait, I’m going to Sydney aren’t I…better scratch that part about the drinking water), not to mention proper music, kebabs and Belgian Beer gardens. After all, it’s the simple things in life that you miss, wouldn’t you agree?
What am I going to miss about Thailand? Let’s see…the amazing food, the people I work with, the cheap shopping (will be interesting to see how far my Thai salary goes in Sydney) and what else…oh yeah, that’s right. Most of all I will miss MyTGF. In the seven months we’ve been together we’ve never spent more than two nights apart. This is going to be tough on both of us, but we are both confident that the relationship will hold up and conquer the tyranny of distance. Though looking at the photo below (taken last night after purchasing a new suitcase) she may be trying to tell me something…
All in all, while I’m going to enjoy the break from Thailand and the opportunity to see my family and friends again, I know I’d much rather be here in Bangkok. Whether that will change once I’m back home I don’t know, but I feel that the next few months is going to determine the rest of my life with MyTGF as we decide where we choose to put down our roots – Thailand or Australia.
For the next few weeks you can expect this blog to be tempo-la-lly re-titled “Your Man On The Grog” as I catch up with all my mates back home, so stay tuned for more tales of ordinary madness as YMOTG reports from ye olde Sydney towne.
