The Honeymoon is over

So let’s see if I can rouse my muscles and fingers from their relaxed state long enough to put down this last blog entry of mine from Thailand.

I’m heading back to Australia in a few short days for job interviews and to set up a new house for when MyTW arrives in a month or thereabouts, so rather fittingly I’ll wrap up this blog with our honeymoon story and then close the door on Thailand for a while at least.

We spent the last three days on Koh Mun Nork, a tiny island in the Gulf of Thailand off Rayong. It’s about a three hour drive from Bangkok and a leisurely 40 minute ferry ride to the resort – the only one on the island owned by the Thai Navy.

It looked just like the brochures with crystal clear waters, soft, white sand and balmy breezes coming in off the ocean. The holiday was so damn near perfect (bar the weather on the second day which blew up cold and cloudy to nearly 30 knots) that I’m almost reluctant to post too much about this hidden treasure.

Hardly anyone (Thais included) knows about this island, and that’s the way I hope it stays. We spoke briefly to one Czech woman in her fifties who’d been coming here for two weeks every year for ten years, and I can understand why. It’s perfect. Forget your full-moon parties, urban hippies and reggae bars. There’s nothing here but sun, salt water, and Singha.

Dad did some fishing (oh did I forget to mention my parents came on the honeymoon too? Why not, plenty of room on the island for all), though he’s probably not ready to be called the “Cod Father” just yet (see pic below). The fish weren’t biting unfortunately, but he still had a good time.

The rest of the time was spent snorkelling or simply sitting in the water with a cold beer, or relaxing in the sun.

So that’s about it. In a few days I’ll be back in oz, looking for a job, and setting up a new home and a new life for me and my Thai wife.

I’m not sure what will happen in the future for us and for this web site, but thanks to all who’ve read, commented, and encouraged me to write.

This is Your Man On The Ground,
Signing off.
