While cruising the aisles in my local villa supermarket at lunch today, I noticed the dulcet tones of – you guessed it – “Jingle Bells” being played over the intercom. Given that most thai’s

don’t understand english
have never seen snow
don’t know what a reindeer is
don’t celebrate christmas in the traditional sense

you gotta wonder what bright spark decided to pipe such alien messages through the store. Chistmas will definitely be a strange affair this year, most likely spent on my Pat Malone, none of Mum’s home cooking and Dad’s home brew, no family to argue with after said homebrew has been imbibed too enthusiastically under the hot australian sun, no sneaking behind the shed in the late afternoon for a “jazz cigarette” with my brother.

Maybe I’ll take a stroll over to Nana Plaza on christmas day instead…I’ve been told the ladies there put on a good spread at this time of year…
