All quiet on the Eastern Front
As regular readers are probably aware, things have been pretty quiet at Ranch-o Robbie or (Baan Lobbie for the Thai folks) as YMOTG has been having most of his adventures indoors and quietly comfortable in domestic bliss with MyTGF.
Freelance work has kept both of us out of adventures in meatspace and firmly ensconced in metaspace over the last few weeks, with only the odd few hours spare to catch a movie and grab a cheap road-side meal with MyTGF.
We tend to eat as much cheap street food as possible these days, not only because its ridiculously inexpensive, but also because it tastes good – even if you are occasionally playing russian roulette with some e-coli bacteria as bullets.
Sitting amongst the locals of an evening all chowing down after a day at work, huddled under a hastily erected umbrella (the rainy season is fast approaching) and listening to the rain fall while slurping up a bowl of gwai-tee-ow ngeu-a or fried chicken in lemongrass and throwing back an ice-cold Singha to wash down the ubiquitous red chilis in every dish, it is easy to remember what it is you love about Thailand.
Mind you – it’s not perfect, it’s not paradise, but then no place is. But as long as the rent is paid and I’ve got MyTGF to look after and be looked after, a few spare baht for a cold beer and the occasional hot slice of pizza, things could be a lot worse ;-)
